Thanasis Parparoussis who trained in Burgundy was one of the first of the new wave of Greek winemakers and set up his winery in 1974. He is now assisted by his daughters, Erifili and Dimitra. Parparoussis, remarkably, has shown a mastery of three completely different styles of wine. His Nemea Reserve of pure Agiorgitiko is consistently among the best wines from that appellation. He also produces dry whites of which one from the Sideritis grape which is native to the north west Peloponnese is unique and exceptionally subtle. Finally using grapes grown high to the east of Patras Parparoussis creates his Muscat de Rio Patras, a stunning sweet wine from Muscat à petits grains. Parparoussis has a very old fashioned commitment to quality that is almost indifferent to financial considerations. If a wine is not good enough for his well-recognised standards, it is simply not released.

Agiorgitiko, the appellation grape of Nemea, is one of the great varietals of the world. The Parparoussis Nemea Reserve is made from selected grapes grown from vineyards of the Gymno district of Nemea. It has an elegant nose with hints of old leather and cherry which leads to velvety tannins in the mouth with a finish of great refinement. The wine is a perfect accompaniment to game, red meat and cheese, and can be drunk now or laid down for future drinking.
